Dexter Emmitt Vaugh Betker

My friend Tennille had her baby yesterday!  Dexter was born at 7:01pm on Monday October 11, 2010; he was their little Thanksgiving turkey!  He will be Chris’s first son and little brother to Danton.  I got to spend an hour with Tennille and Dexter this morning giving him some hugs and snuggles!  What an adorable boy!  Perfectly formed by God and an absolute joy to behold!

I have only one true nephew whom I adore, Donovan.  He is 3 years old and I love him more then I thought possible!  But I also have 3 others that I am “Pretty Aunty Kerrie” to!  My best friend Sara has a 1 year old son Payton.  My good friend Jenny had a baby girl on September 18th, 2010, McKenna who is my first “niece” and also the sweetest thing ever!  And I now have Dexter as well to love on!

There are so many awesome baby quilts out there, but for this baby I needed to think outside the box.  Tennille is my most unique and, shall I say flamboyant friend so something at little different was required!

This is what I came up with:

This is a Day and Night quilt made with 2 fabrics and 3 strips.  It is the crib size and I used free-motion quilting with stars and loops to quilt it.  I LOVE the way it turned out!  I’m not going to lie… it was a hard one to give away but I know that Tennille will love it well!

I had some fabric left over and so I also made a matching diaper bag for her.  I used the pattern, The Big Bag Theory.  My mom is teaching a class on making this bag at Sew Many Treasures this fall.  There is also a chance that my mom and I may teach some of the girls who come to craft night in November at Temple Baptist how to make this little beauty!… Stay tuned!
