Retreat Retreat!

I retreated again today! Day two of the quilt retreat. I was among the first people there and with the last group that left. We were sewing furiously all day! Best of all, I remembered to wear my traditional, pincushion ring! I don’t actually do much hand sewing at all, but my friend Brenda gave me this last year and so I like to wear it as jewelry for the quilt retreats. I know, people think I’m weird. :) Weird but happy!

I had a great interruption today. My sister and nephew brought me lunch and then we browsed around the quilt shop a bit together. Jackie decided to make a apron so we found a pattern and she picked fabric. Meanwhile, Donovan (my nephew) zipped around the store choosing fabric for himself. His grandma has clearly trained him well, because he knows his was around a bolt of fabric, I tell you! He chose for himself 4 flannel FQ’s, all coordinating perfectly, with his favorite design, polkadots! While my sister finished up her purchase Donovan and I went over to the classroom. He “helped” me cut, then choose the order of the pieces and then he stepped on the petal of the sewing machine while I guided the fabric through. Let me tell you, I had to be quick too because he stood on that petal with both feet! The two of us made a simple little flannel piece in the time if took my sister to pay for her fabric!

There were lots of great finishes today by the other ladies. A couple more jelly roll quilts were made as well. Here are four of the quilts tops that different girls completed.

Are you wondering what I worked on today? I plugged away at the You Zig I’ll Zag, Reunion quilt. By the end of the night I had all 50 pieces done and organized on the design wall. I also finished the setting triangles and started sewing the blocks together. I’m really liking how this is turning out. I decided to make it a bit bigger then the pattern called for and I’m glad. It should finish off at about 90×75 or so.

I just realized as I am writting this that I layed out the blocks differently then the pattern said. I put all the “V’s” pointing up when they were supposed to be alternating up and down. Hmmm, well I like it this way too, and I’m not picking out now, so I guess I’ll just go with this layout.

Only one more short day left of the retreat. I still have big plans for what I want to get done tomorrow. I better get some sleep so I’m ready to get back at it!
